The exhibition project SURVIVAL IN THE 21st CENTURY explores the foundations of life in the age of the polycrisis. Developed by Georg Diez and Nicolaus Schafhausen in close cooperation with the Deichtorhallen, the exhibition incorporates elementary questions of ecology, technology and spirituality. The „School of Survival“ expands the about 40 international artistic positions and turns the exhibition venue into a learning space for the future.
SURVIVAL IN THE 21st CENTURY focuses on fundamental questions of human existence and reflects on the radical disruptions we are facing: climate change, the digital revolution, growing injustice on a national and global scale, the crisis of democracy and the question of community. The elaborate exhibition with numerous multimedia installations and an exhibition architecture designed by Bundschuh Architects demonstrates how cultural survival requires new cultural practices.

Das Ausstellungsprojekt SURVIVAL IN THE 21st CENTURY untersucht die Grundlagen des Lebens im Zeitalter der Polykrise. Entwickelt von Georg Diez und Nicolaus Schafhausen in enger Zusammenarbeit mit den Deichtorhallen, bezieht die Ausstellung grundlegende Fragen zu Ökologie, Technologie und Spiritualität ein. Die „School of Survival“ erweitert die rund 40 internationalen künstlerischen Positionen und verwandelt den Ausstellungsort in einen Lernraum für die Zukunft.
SURVIVAL IN THE 21st CENTURY widmet sich fundamentalen Fragen menschlicher Existenz und reflektiert die tiefgreifenden Umbrüche, mit denen wir gegenwärtig konfrontiert sind: Klimawandel, digitale Revolution, wachsende Ungleichheit auf nationaler und globaler Ebene, die Krise der Demokratie sowie die Frage nach Gemeinschaft. Die aufwendig konzipierte Ausstellung mit zahlreichen multimedialen Installationen und einer von Bundschuh Architektenen twickelten Ausstellungsarchitektur zeigt, inwiefern kulturelles Überleben neue kulturelle Praktiken erfordert.
